Hey, I’m Akshara Kachhawa, the kind of girl who’ll stop mid-walk to film a fleeting moment. I’m currently studying at NIFT Shillong and recently interned with Ogilvy. I spend most of my days behind the lens, directing, editing, and piecing together stories that feel honest and human. Whether it’s a short film, a reel, or a documentary, I chase stories that make people feel something real.
My love for filmmaking began long before I even knew the word for it. From being a big-time movie buff to saving ads into a YouTube playlist, I’ve always been obsessed with the way stories move people. I’m a certified yapper who loves thinking deep, developing small philosophies, and finding stories tucked into ordinary corners of life.
When I first held a camera in my second year of college, something clicked. “God, I love this,” I remember thinking. It was love at first sight. Soon I started wandering the streets with my camera, chasing moments, faces, and fleeting emotions.
Choosing to major in Advertising only deepened that fascination. For our first big project, we made a short film in a lift, with a mirror and barely enough space to breathe. It was chaotic, hilarious, and one of the best things I’ve ever done. Building the concept, scripting, acting, shooting; every second of it reminded me that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life.
Since then, I’ve dived headfirst into stories, from documentaries and student films to fashion reels and experimental edits. I’ve studied how color, composition, and camera movement can silently shape emotion. That’s what drives me: the power of visual storytelling to make someone feel. If my work can make a viewer pause, smile, ache, or simply remember, that’s success for me.
While researching the ads I grew up loving, I discovered they were made by Ogilvy, a name that sat quietly on my dream list for years. And somehow, that dream came true when I interned there. Those months taught me not only about production and teamwork but also about humility, precision, and purpose.
Today, I can confidently say that I’m comfortable behind the camera and in the edit suite. But at heart, I’m still that girl chasing stories, curious, observant, and endlessly in love with the craft of filmmaking.
If you’ve read this far, thank you for stepping into my little world. And if this journey sparked something in you, let’s connect! 🌻
